The weather forecast for this afternoon in Mumbai is sunny, low humidity with a light wind. Another perfect day in Mumbai. I saw that Westboro is getting ready for another big snow storm on Thursday. I love snow and the cold, but I could use this if it stayed this way all the time. I know it does not, but right now it is perfect.
I am into my second week in Mumbai. Every afternoon I have been watching a road crew digging a trench to run some type of cable under the road. I have not seen any large pieces of equipment to quickly dig the trench. The trench or ditch is about waist high. I have seen the men with shovels piling up dirt and putting it in bags. I feel if there was large heavy equipment to assist the crew would cause the traffic to be worse than it is now. There would be no place to put it unless in the path of the vehicles. Yesterday, I saw one crew member pushing the dirt and bricks back into the ditch. One similarity between road crews in Mumbai and US, I see them sitting more than working. I know they work, but why is it when I pass by they are sitting. Interesting...
Everyone shares in the office. At dinner (it is around 12 midnight when we eat here) everyone comes together and shares their food. It is wonderful. In the US it is not this way. We may share a bite of food. All of the food I have eaten has been delicious. I attempt not to ask what is in it. I want to try it without any perceived notions of likes and dislikes. Ashish has been a gentleman getting me napkins to wipe my fingers. I don't like my fingers sticky or dirty, but I am getting used to it. Piyush's wife made the most wonderful dessert out of carrots. It was amazing. I have asked for the recipe. I know Manny and Erika would attempt to make it. You know SHARING IS CARING.
Everyone in Mumbai has been so caring. They are protective as well. Yesterday I went to the ground floor to talk the IPMs. Currently, the IPMs are on the Ground floor and 7th floor. I went without an escort. After I returned to the 7th floor they asked who I went with me to the Ground Floor. I told the Me, Myself and I. I did forgot the badge, so I had to go back to the 7th floor to get it. I keep breaking the lanyard when I get up. You may notice I wrote Ground Floor not 1st Floor. Ground Floor is 0 in the elevators, then there is 1. This is the same in Europe. I don't have to use my badge because the guard triggers the gate to open for me. I always thank him for his assistance.
I am always thanking everyone here. They are so wonderful assisting me. I have questions or concerns they answer them. I make the group laugh at some of my questions. I am like a child attempting to understand the difference between the cultures. I have been told not to thank them because I am a guest here. I feel part of the team not a guest.
The group are shocked when I respond to them when they are speaking Hindi. I keep telling them after 8 years in the company I understand more than they think. I can tell by the expressions on the faces and hand motions. Sometimes it is a lucky guess. So watch out Ashish and Ananth...
Tomorrow I will be up earlier than today to go shopping with Vijeta. I need to buy items for family and friends. I am very excited. People who know me know I don't like shopping especially at malls. I always look for a great deal. Zareen I will be looking for a new Indian outfit for me. I have a list of items I want to buy for my family which is the highest priority. Sophia - you are a high priority. I have not forgotten about you and your saree.
Just thinking about the kitchen remodeling. The walls is down. The support beam is in place so the house does not cave into the living room since the wall was a weight bearing wall. The ugly green floor is gone. The wood floor is sitting in the living room acclimating to the house before installing it. The plumbing has been completed and inspected. There were leaks in the septic pipe that the plumber fixed for us. Thank goodness it was found before the leak got worse. I can't wait to see the cupboards and granite installed. It is coming all together. Manny and Max were choosing light switches. I did not realize the different types of light switches there are. They know I hate walking into a dark room, so they are choosing motion detector switches.
The only people from Westboro who have been in my home are Radhika, Rushad and Omkar. Rohit, Shanawaz, Ananth and Royson have been to my home. Even Sophia and Sheila have driven me home, but have never been inside. People must wondering what I am hiding inside. Nothing. With the new kitchen and living room Manny will be able to prepare food for an open house. As you read - I said Manny will prepare. It is HIS kitchen. He loves to cook. I cook because I am hungry. Even than I will eat popcorn or cereal so I don't have to cook. Yes - I know how to cook, but to me it is a chore not a passion. Erika and Max enjoy cooking as well. Maybe with the new kitchen I may enjoy it more.
Since I woke up early today I am going into work instead of sitting here. I can read my emails and respond in the apartment. I can't get into eManager system here. So I just got the call, I am off now.
